Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Limpid garnet in colour, Henri Boillot’s Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru ‘11 has an inviting bouquet with lush red cherries, strawberry and cassis scents that are well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe and fleshy tannins, good acidity and a solid, slightly saline finish that augurs well for the future.Vinous
The 2011 Clos Vougeot is intense and voluptuous to the core. Violets, dried rose petals, hard candy and dark stone fruits fill out the wine's broad-shouldered frame beautifully. Perfumed overtones add an attractive upper register to complement the delineated fruit, but the Clos Vougeot remains a wine built on structure and power. Here, too, the massive tannins are going to require patience. (Drink between 2021-2036)"
