There are just 4,000 bottles of the 2022 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey Crème De Tête, and it's a powerful yet finesse-driven, insanely good Sauternes in the making. Honeyed orange, caramelized pineapple, toasted spice, and fresh pastry notes all emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, has remarkable purity and freshness, and a great finish. There's a boatload of sugar here (240 grams) yet it still manages to stay light on its feet and graceful. It's always best to wait until Sauternes are bottled (and ideally with a year or two in bottle as well) to really understand where these wines are going, but this certainly looks sensational today. 05/2024
