Masseto est un grand vin élégant et aromatique, aux tanins soyeux, qui voit le jour à la Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, domaine toscan de référence. C’est en 1984 que certaines parcelles furent plantées en merlot, avec pour modèle les grands noms de Pomerol. Masseto a néanmoins sa propre identité : concentré et suave, c’est bien un vin italien ! Les lots sont élevés 12 mois en barriques, puis l’assemblage final est choisi et retourne en barriques pour 12 mois supplémentaires.

The Masseto 2021 Massetino is mostly Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc for good measure. The wine (packaged in a heavy glass bottle) is very richly concentrated and layered. You see (and taste) the opulent texture of the wine as it slowly coats the glass. Quality fruit is matched by carefully selected oak, and the intensity of both builds on the palate. This vintage is poised for especially long cellar aging. This vintage of Massetino (2021) scores neck-in-neck with the current vintage (2020) of Masseto. - ML 05/2023Vinous
The 2020 Masseto is superb. Bright and vibrant in the glass, the 2020 offers up an exciting mix of dark-toned fruit, mocha, spice, leather, tobacco, cedar and a kiss of French oak. Lively acids and Franc aromatics lend vibrancy throughout. The Franc is so evident today. This is exceptionally polished and sophisticated, albeit a touch slender relative to most years. In 2020, Masseto is more finesse than power. - AG 08/2023
