Notes de dégustation

Wineadvocate

There are nine barrels of the 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot), a broad-shouldered, powerful wine that offers up aromas of pear, white flowers, buttered citrus and warm bread. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a rounded, muscular profile and a long, resonant finish.

Vinous

The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru really delivers on the nose this year, featuring intense, mineral-rich citrus fruit with subtle scents of lemon thyme, fennel and crushed chalk, imbued with superb delineation. The palate is packed with weight and density, as you would expect, although the wood feels a little conspicuous and slightly occludes the terroir expression at the moment. [Note that Frédéric Barnier told me that this came from a one-year barrel but the final blend will have around one-third new oak.] At the moment, based on these samples, I prefer the Chevalier-Montrachet’s tension and precision by direct comparison. This is a lovely Montrachet, but it doesn’t quite deliver that all-important knockout punch. '

Morris

Beautiful pale primrose colour. As you would expect this takes time to emerge from its cocoon of majesty. A little banana and a few spices, not really relevant. Grand tension at the start on the palate, and happily at the finish too with a super ripe sumptuous wealth of fruit in between.
