Description

Wineadvocate
The 2023 Cornas Vieilles Fontaines, vinified with around one-third whole clusters and matured for 24 months in barrel, including roughly one-third new oak, reveals a deep and complex bouquet of cassis, blackberry, blueberry, spices and blood orange. Full-bodied, dense and structured, it’s built around a profound, layered core of fruit, combining technical precision with beautifully controlled power. Long and expansive, it displays remarkable depth and authority, with a persistent, ethereal finish. This is a wine that should be cellared for at least a decade and will reward patience over 25 to 30 years. More identitary than the 2022, which appeared more constrained, this is a benchmark rendition at this address.Dunnuck
Not yet bottled but tasted as a final blend, the 2023 Cornas Les Vieilles Fontaines delivers ripe, exotic aromatics of black and blue fruits, blood orange, violets, and incense, with some peppery nuances emerging with air. All the 2023s here have this exotic, lifted style, and this is medium to full-bodied, with a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. Aging 24 months in 228-liter oak barrels with 15% to 20% new oak, it's going to need short-term cellaring to show its full potential.
