Is this the most over-performing estate in the Médoc? Director Véronique Dausse would surely riposte that it's simply performing at the level to which its well-situated vineyards and detail-oriented team entitle it; but in any case, the 2019 Phélan Ségur is a brilliant wine. Offering up aromas of cassis, sweet wild berries, rose petals, violets, licorice and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with tangy acids, powdery tannins and a long, penetrating finish. This is another 2019 that en primeur purchasers can feel very pleased with. - WK 04/2022

Vinous

The 2019 Phélan-Ségur has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry and bilberry fruit, a subtle marine influence that develops with aeration. Very cohesive. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very precise with wonderful mineralité and tension. This oozes class, a Swiss watch of a Saint-Estèphe with outstanding length and complexity. Top drawer and a benchmark for the estate. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. NM 01/2023

Beck

Que d'intensité fruitée dans ce bouquet ! Il s'en retrouve très invitant et affiche, en plus du fruit, beaucoup de fraîcheur. Parfums d'épices douces, de graphite, de groseilles et de myrtilles. En bouche le vin se révèle en crescendo. Il affiche certes d'entrée sa puissance mais révèle ses caractéristiques aromatiques pas à pas. Les tannins sont précis, denses, puissants mais subtils ! De surcroît ils matchent complètement avec l'acidité. A eux deux, ces éléments forment un duo de choc et fournissent non seulement l'ampleur mais l'énergie nécessaire à ce vin pour défier les décennies à venir. The complexity and depth is fantastic in this beautifully crafted, refined red. Such poise, finesse and length. Yet dense and very compacted. Love the texture precision. Goes on and on. Best ever?
