Notes de dégustation

Wineadvocate

The top of the range in white is the 2014 Mártires, produced with the grapes of a vineyard that names the wine, a plot of Viura planted in Briones in 1970 with head-pruned vines. The full clusters were pressed in a vertical press and the must fermented in new French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, where the wine was kept in contact with the lees for four months, with bâtonnage twice per week and a further nine months in barrique after being racked. Here there is a creamy note that gives an overall character to the wine, which feels sleek and elegant, faintly balsamic with better freshness than 2013. There are floral notes and some leesy and smoky notes. The palate is terribly balanced, with plenty of oak-related flavors, as the wine feels very young; it has great freshness and a lively, mineral finish. It's approachable now, but I'd give it some time in bottle to finish integrating the oak. 1,500 bottles were filled in July 2015. Drink: 2017-2025.
