Le Petit Cheval est le second vin du Château Cheval Blanc et est produit depuis 1988. Le Petit Cheval posséde un caractère particulier voir unique, le vignoble étant voisin de Pomerol. Un encépagement particulier pour Saint-Émilion, le Cabernet Franc domine le Merlot,ce qui produit un vin noble,très ouvert, intense et onctueux. Le Petit Cheval pourrait se boire jeune mais il offre également la possibilité d´une garde importante.

The 2020 Le Petit Cheval offers up aromas of minty cherries, plums, raw cocoa, mint and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and voluptuous palate underpinned by a broad-shouldered chassis of tannin. A blend of 59% Cabernet Franc and 41% Merlot, it's a rather structured young Petit Cheval that will reward a bit of patience. - WK 04/2023Vinous
Le Petit Cheval is stunning. Rich, deep and expansive, the Petit Cheval is outrageously good. In fact, it could easily be mistaken for a Cheval Blanc from anything less than a great vintage. The aromatics are alluring and the balance is sublime; all that really identifies this as a second wine is a bit of mid-palate depth. Il était important de récolter tôt pour éviter la surmaturité du raisin. Journées très longues et chaudes et peu de baisse de température durant la nuit. Le bouquet s'en "sort" très bien dans le contexte chaleureux du millésime. Certainement, le Cabernet Franc contribue à cela car ce sont d'agréables nuances florales qui prennent le dessus. Le vin est légèrement crémeux en attaque. Ses tannins se révèlent lentement et offrent de la puissance ainsi qu'un caractère un plus ferme en fin de bouche. Ceci est néanmoins bien intégré grâce à la structure et l'expression fruitée. Au final le vin affiche de l'harmonie, mais il demande à s'épanouir. 2026-2040 - YB 01/2023Suckling
The second wine of Cheval shows such glorious yet subtle fruit with chocolate, dark berries such as blackberries, and a light spice character. A walnut undertone. It's soft and silky with wonderful balance and beauty. It goes on for minutes. Hard not to drink now.Dunnuck
I wrote in my note on the 2020 Château Cheval Blanc Le Petit Cheval that this is "one hell of a second wine," and it has a kiss of the elegance and complexity found in the top cuvée. Black fruits, roasted herbs, graphite, and scorched earth notes all emerge from this ruby/purple-hued beauty, which has medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It will drink nicely for 15+ years. - 03/2023
