Clos du Marquis entsteht auf dem Weingut Léoville-Las-Cases, einem Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Julien. Die Weinberge befinden sich im westlichen Bereich des Gutes, umgeben von 2ème Crus. Die Assemblage enthält mehr Merlot als der Las-Cases, dessen Weinberge an die von Latour grenzen. Der Wein benötigt einen 20-monatigen Ausbau (25% neues Holz), um sein volles Potenzial zu entfalten. Clos du Marquis ist ein geschmeidiger und angenehmer Wein, der Liebhaber von Saint-Julien begeistern wird.

The 2020 Clos du Marquis wafts from the glass with aromas of rich berries, cherries, orange zest, pencil shavings and crushed mint. The 2020 Clos du Marquis is a rich, explosive wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, red plum, dark spice and pomegranate give the 2020 its effusive, open-knit personality. Clos du Marquis s'affiche avec beaucoup d'assurance, de sérénité. Le bouquet se révèle pas à pas avec de classiques notes de baies noires et de graphite. J'ai rarement connu le Clos du Marquis autant dense. Ses tannins sont certes encore quelque peu anguleux (tout en démontrant leur finesse), mais c'est de bon augure dans le contexte de l'ampleur présente. I always love this wine. While it never has the regal elegance of the Leoville Las Case, it always brings beautiful depth and richness. The 2020 Clos Du Marquis is no exception and is a concentrated, medium to full-bodied Saint-Julien delivering lots of ripe tobacco, graphite, and crushed stone aromatics, a great mid-palate, fine tannins, and a terrific core of bright cherry and darker currant fruits. A terrific wine, it will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and cruise over the following two decades.
