The 2023 Côte-Rôtie Améthyste was bottled only 15 days before my visit and is assembled from parcels in Côte Brune, Côte Blonde, Lancement, Chavaroche, Fongeant and Leyat, with around 50% whole clusters. It opens with aromas of ripe yet fresh dark fruits—blueberry and black cherry—accented by a touch of pepper and becoming markedly floral with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s fleshy, round and enveloping, offering fine volume and tension, supported by welcome acidity that brings freshness and lift. The tannins are beautifully velvety, leading to an ethereal, floral finish marked by notes of black cherry and lilac. Already remarkably harmonious, it captures the identity of the vintage with precision, combining generosity, freshness and aromatic complexity in a particularly compelling way.
