Au cours de son histoire, le Château d'Armailhac changea plusieurs fois de propriétaires et de noms (il apparaît au classement des grands crus de 1855 sous le nom Mouton-d'Armailhacq) pour finalement être acquis par son voisin, le Baron Philippe de Rothschild. L'encépagement est constitué d'une dominante de cabernet sauvignon et de merlot, cultivés de manière traditionnelle. L'élevage comprend environ 30% de barriques neuves et 70% de barriques en provenance directe de Mouton-Rothschild. Le Château d'Armailhac a fait de net progrès ces dernières années.

The 2020 d'Armailhac is excellent, bursting with aromas of blackberries, violets, burning embers and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy palate that's broad but precise, with powdery tannins and a lively core of fruit. It's a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. - WK 04/2023Vinous
The 2020 d'Armailhac has a very pure bouquet with blackberry, bilberry, crushed iris flowers and hints of potpourri, tightly-wound at first but opening nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly angular tannins at first, fine acidity, pure blackberry and graphite notes becoming more accentuated towards the finish. That could only come from Pauillac. L'année s'est déroulée de manière plutôt sereine, outre des risques de gel en début de saison et la pluie du mois de mai, c'est l'été qui a été particulièrement sec, sans que la vigne ne souffre néanmoins. D'Armailhac se distingue par sa fraîcheur et par des tannins compacts, quelque peu serrés, mais parfaitement intégrés. Ils offrent une solide assise et sont garants d'une belle garde. Bright aromas of currants and raspberries, oranges, and roses. Peach skin. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy and velvety tannins. So much finesse and balance. The 2020 Château D'Armailhac is a blockbuster that's going to reward patience. Based on 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, its inky purple hue is followed by a deep, concentrated, mouth-filling Pauillac offering classic darker currant fruits, notes of graphite and lead pencil, building tannins, and outstanding length. This chewy, tannic, backward wine will need 5-7 years of bottle age and will evolve for two decades. - 03/2023
