serious, more obviously structured effort than the suave 2019, the 2020 Grand Village offers up a smoky, dense bouquet with aromas of cherries, spices, flowers, lead pencil and dark wild berries. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with rich, powdery tannins and a vibrant core of fruit, it concludes with an impressively long finish and superb controlled power. The 2020 Grand Village is a blend of 21% Cabernet Franc and 79% Merlot, matured in 30% new oak. It has a well-defined bouquet of pure black cherries, cassis, iris flower and touches of crushed stone, all very sophisticated. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and fine backbone and salinity. Tightly wound with touches of brine toward the vivid finish. One of the best Grand Village vintages that I have encountered from barrel. - NM 06/2021
