Clos Manou 2020 (Magnum)

Clos Manou ist ein Wein aus dem Médoc, aus durchschnittlich 40 Jahre alten Rebstöcken. Der moderne, runde Clos Manou ist eine Assemblage aus Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc und Petit Verdot, deren Anteile je nach Jahrgang variieren. Er wird in neuen Fässern ausgebaut. Clos Manou ist das Werk eines weinbegeisterten Paares, das 1998 mit einem ersten Jahrgang begann, der 600 Flaschen ergab. Es folgten die Modernisierung der technischen Anlagen und der Kauf schöner Parzellen, die Clos Manou heute zu einem unbestrittenen Erfolg im Weinbaugebiet von Bordeaux machen.

The 2020 Clos Manou has turned out brilliantly. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, spices and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep core of vibrant fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins, concluding with a long, violet-inflected finish. Seamlessly constructed, it's a terrific example of haute couture winemaking that would embarrass numerous classified growths. - WK 04/2023

Comme à son habitude, Clos Manou se révèle avec subtilité. Le sens du détail de Stéphane Dief n'est plus à prouver, et pourtant le vigneron doit chaque année recommencer à zéro, se poser les bonnes questions et approcher le millésime avec du recul tout en étant attentif et réactif à ses particularités. Le 2020 est un équilibriste talentueux qui vogue entre maturité et fraîcheur au niveau olfactif. Doté de tannins fins et puissants, il dispose d'une structure acide qui assure tempérament et fraîcheur. Le résultat est convaincant, à tout niveau. Françoise and Stéphane Dief's 16.5 hectares of vines in the northern part of the Médoc were decimated in 2020 by frost, and their 2020 Clos Manou comes from dismal yields of just 26 hectoliters per hectare. The blend is 57% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. It has an incredible sense of minerality and almost salinity to go with impressive red and black fruits, notes of smoked tobacco and flowers, medium to full body, and integrated acidity. It's clearly an outstanding wine that's going to offer loads of pleasure over the coming decade or so. - 03/2023
